Tributes
Tributes: An idea is born through a beloved’s death
I have experienced many deaths of loved ones in my lifetime. Many were family, some friends, and in my adult years, many animal friends. Most of those deaths were sudden, not expected, or, I was not able to be a part of the dying process.
Harmony was a Golden Retriever – Hound Mix. With Harmony’s passing, I had the privilege of being with her deeply on a daily basis for the last years, months, days, and moments of her long life. She was 4 months shy of reaching her 18th birthday! Though I had only known her for the 2nd half of her life, she brought a rich and varied series of teachings for me. She continues to coach me and offer her loving support. I feel her prompting me to write about those experiences, so that other people can find inspiration and comfort from her as well.
Sometime after Harmony’s death, an idea began to percolate for me to create a new section on my website to honor those people and animals who have passed over. Those that I have known, as wells as for clients, and any one who wanted to add their own tribute. A place where people can honor, acknowledge and to continue to learn from those who have been such important beings in our lives. And so, with love and gratitude, I offer this:
To those of you who have come before me, I offer this tribute to you.
For the many people and animals who have been such an important part of my life,
To those of you who have shown me what it is to live more richly,
To feel more deeply,
To see more clearly,
To love more fully,
I offer this tribute.
To those of you who have taught me, held me,
Loved me, supported me, scolded me,
I thank you and offer this to you.
To those of you who have sat with me through my confusion, and shared my joys, I thank you time and time again.
To those horses who have shown me how to ride, to be fluid, soft, gentle, and compassionate, I thank you.
To those horses who I have known before who have been in pain, and I didn’t know how to help at the time, I offer this work to others as an ongoing tribute to you.
To those who have gone before me and have shown the way,
This is a tribute with great gratitude for you all.
Please add your own tributes- a sentence, a poem, a description, a story, any kind of tribute or honoring you would like, of someone you have loved and who has died.
