Last May I discovered a non-toxic, great scented recipe that Stink Bugs** evidently do not like! I have been hearing increasing numbers of people complaining once again about those dive bombing, weird, pre-historic looking creatures. So, here is my update on them and how I have been dealing with them.
This is what I consider my high powered mix that works for all kinds of creepy crawlies and dive bombing Stink Bugs.
But, I caution you to learn from my experiences; if I vary even by one oil or one ingredient, or dilute it after I use half of it up, than this recipe has not worked as well. It still works, but not as well.
The first time I used it, was just for creepy crawlies last May, 2011. I was not even thinking to use it for Stink Bugs since they are so ‘retardant’ to just about everything. But, after a week or two of spritzing around the kitchen with this mix, I realized there were hardly any stink bugs. Before spraying this mix, they were growing in numbers daily. So, every time I’d see another Stinker, I’d remove it to the outside, and spritz around again.
I didn’t have any Stink Bugs all summer, and this fall, typically a terrible time for them, and when everyone was once again complaining about tons of Stink Bugs, I barely had any! Except in my horse’s feed shed. When Yup, you guessed it, in that distinctly stink bug manner, all of a sudden, one warm day in October, about 50 appeared! Ugh. I opened my feed room door, only to be greeted by dive bombing! No, no, no, that was not acceptable in my feed room! So, I brought out my stink bug spritzer and sprayed the heck out of the feed room. Because these are therapeutic grade, I thought, hmm, it’d be good for the feed and hay too! And, I was not worried about my inhaling any toxic fumes, I could inhale deeply all those great for you aromas.
It did take a few days of spraying each day in the feed room, but then, they disappeared in the shed too. Phew! And so far, they have not returned in the shed except for an occasional loner. Even on those warm winter days we have had here in Virginia. Not bad, right?
In the house, this winter, they have reappeared — however, only a handful. I have heard people saying they have at least 50 or more a day roaming and diving around. And, I realized this a.m. as I was reviewing the original recipe, that I had been omitting the Witch Hazel this winter, and had added Thieves. I had run out of Witch Hazel and forgot to get more. Plus, I had been adding and omitting other oils just to see which is most effective and what is really needed. So, I am thinking that once I get the Witch Hazel back into the recipe, those few stragglers will be gone as well.
My conclusion, DO Not Vary this recipe for best results! And, only use Therapeutic Grade Young Living Essential Oils of course!
In a 12 oz spritz bottle;
10 drops each of:
Melaleuca Alternafolia (Tea Tree)
Clove
Sage
Rosemary
Peppermint
Purification
Pine
Mix with equal amounts of Aloe Vera Juice, Witch Hazel and Distilled or Spring Water to fill the bottle.
You might ask, ‘Why do each of these work, why the Witch Hazel, why Aloe Vera Juice?’ Honestly, it is a mystery! But I like having a very non-toxic, very good for you, way to deal with this pesky problem!
P.S. I spritzed along the floor edges of the cabinets in my kitchen, counter tops, and along the sliding glass door bottoms.
If you try this mix, and have similar results, or no results, let me know, I want to test this out in more than my household!
Happy Oiling!
Sandy

Mentoring People and Animals For Healthier, More Vibrant and Inspired Lives!
On this Valentine’s Day, I am reminded of the love
we share with one another, in all the large and small ways.
A kind look, a gentle comment or gesture for instance
can show our love. The ways we care for our animals
and the love we share with them helps us open
and be with our hearts.
As my horse Ibis approaches 30 years of age in April, and experiences the ups and downs of his very elder years, we have entered a very precious time.
Though this relationship is very much between horse and person, the last 25 years of being with this amazing being is filling me with awe.
Gone are the days when we would be at odds with one another about how we each wanted to do things-differently! Phew, it has been a long and winding, sometimes very rocky road!
All the more sweet now however. I so deeply appreciate the gentleness and sweetness that he shows and we have together now. As I was feeding him this morning for instance, and applying
his essential oils and TTouch to ease his aches and pains, he glanced
back at me and we rested together, a tender gentle moment of
appreciation and love between us. It is indeed a precious time.
So I bid each and every one of you a special, tender thanks on
this Valentines Day for also being in my life, and for sharing “The Love.”
At the request of a very good friend, I am sending out the video I
made last Valentine’s Day – “The Love Fest of Life”
Last year I had asked everyone on the One Heart list to send in pics
of themselves and their loved ones. This video is how all those pics and
love came together- Enjoy!
And, here are some local upcoming events; Saturday February 18, 2012 from 1-3pm The Animal Connection Charlottesville, VA.
Free Lecture and demonstration using Essential Oils and
Tellington TTouch. I’ll be talking about how these
methods have been used with dogs, cats and horses.

NAT is a technique that connects the synapses of the brain and upper spinal cord, thus creating an environment that facilitates optimal health and healing. NAT affects the Vagus nerve at the base of the brain, which impacts all digestive organs, lungs, heart, eyes, ears, nose and the endocrine system. It stimulates circulation of the cerebral-spinal fluid and lymphatic system.
This powerful new technique using 5 specifically chosen therapeutic-grade essential oils was created by D. Gary Young.
NAT Technique
Five Essential Oils: Valor, Stress Away, RutaVaLa and Deep Relief (Roll-ons) and Frankincense are applied with a specific protocol on the area of the LC (Locus Ceruleus- a nucleus in the brain stem involved with physiological responses to stress and panic) and the cranial ridge (occiput). The technique uses light pressure points along the cranial ridge and upper back. It is easy to learn and easy to perform! You do not have to be a professional.
NAT has had positive responses for clinical depression, panic disorder, anxiety, ADD/ADHD, sleep disorders and inflammation. NAT may interrupt stress induced fear circuitry disorders especially important for post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and Panic Disorder. Nerve impulses that are involved with sugar-regulation, blood pressure, and even some stages of Alzheimers can be positively effected.

Mentoring People and Animals for Healthier More Vibrant and Inspired Lives!
Kids, cats, dogs and birds in the home are like Canaries in the Coal Mines.
Small children and animals are the most seriously effected by toxic chemicals in household products used for cleaning and air freshening in the home. Their systems are super sensitive to chemicals. Nasal passageways and skin are bombarded with the chemicals in products like air fresheners, floor cleaners, soaps and shampoos. These chemicals stay in the body and have been shown to cause inflammation and be carcinogenic. This is serious!
One of the worst items in our homes are Air Fresheners though.
Get them out of your house!
I have heard several Veterinarians say that once air fresheners are out of the house, multiple health issues have cleared up with their small animals, especially thyroid issues and hard to diagnose illnesses!
Know your products and what you are bringing into your home. Did you know that there are cumulative effects to toxins used in household cleaners and air fresheners?
Listen to what Dr. Martin has to say in this video about liver damage from toxic chemicals in air fresheners, pest control, hand sanitizers, oven cleaners and many other common products in the home.
Take a look at this safe, non-toxic alternative for cleaning homes, offices, stable and farm buildings, Vet and Medical Clinics and Kennels, Hotels, Spa’s and Hospitals.
Thieves® Household Cleaner is a natural and healthy catch-all product that can serve as a replacement for at least a half-dozen toxic cleansers you may currently have in your house. This is a green, ecologically friendly, plant-based cleaner containing Thieves essential oil blend plus additional therapeutic-grade lemon oil for extra cleaning power.
The Thieves Cleaner is very highly concentrated and is cost effective. I use this cleaner to effectively clean and wash laundry, floors, counter tops, sinks, toilet bowls, refrigerators, ovens, stove tops porch cleaning, wiping down outdoor furniture, my horses, dogs, carpet spills, and so much more! The scent is so delicious, healthy, good for us and welcomed vs. inhaling toxic chemical scents.
I was visiting a friend’s home right after the cleaning person had mopped the floors and cleaned the bathroom and showers with some strong chemical cleaner. I almost fainted from the fumes because they were so strong. Just walking across the floor barefoot, my feet actually felt a burning sensation and I almost collapsed when I took a shower from the fumes. Can you imagine what the dogs were absorbing from their sensitive noses and highly absorbent paw pads? She switched to Thieves Cleaner after that!
I know Veterinarians who are now ordering this cleaner for their vet practices!!!! How awesome is that? Picture this; walking into your vet office and smelling Thieves Cleaner instead of disinfectants?

Mentoring People and Animals For Healthier, More Vibrant and Inspired Lives!
Have you had a recent loss, change in job, relocated, worry about money, a change in marital status, chronic pain or illness, abuse physically, emotionally or sexually? Had a brain injury, experienced emotional trauma or been taking care of someone else who is ill?
If you answered yes to any one of these, then your system knows stress, possibly chronic or extreme stress. And likely, you are dealing with some of its physiological counterparts.
Did you know there is a relationship between chronic diseases like Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Colitis, Blood sugar issues, Anxiety, Depression and our Endocrine System, Hormones, Adrenals and Stress?
Stress related issues and illnesses comprise 99% of the issues people complain of when they come into Dr. Mary Bove’s Naturpoathic office in Brattleboro, VT seeking help.
Dr. Bove, ND has found stress to be the basis of a lot of chronic illnesses for people. She is seeing this relationship unfold more and more frequently. And, she is finding new connections and understandings all the time. She treats a lot of children, as well as men, women, and teenagers.
Do you have some difficult to diagnose or puzzling pieces with your health?
Dr. Bove looks at the symptoms, but also helps people understand the links between what we do in our lives, our health, how we developed these issues and, what we can do to help our system come back into true balance. She looks beyond the symptoms.
What leads us to immune hypersensitivity?
How does our gut become leaky and permeable?
Why do you get outbreaks of yeast infections?
What leads you into allergic reactions?
How does stress increase a loss of bone mass?
What does fluid retention have to say about your life?
Why does fat accumulate more easily now as you grow into your 30’s, 40’s 50’s?
What happens in your body when subject to mild or ongoing stresses of life?
Find out the answers to these questions and what we can do to support our bodies in the upcoming Teleseminar with Dr. Mary Bove, ND, a leading Naturopath and Herbalist as she shares her wisdom and medical knowledge with us.

Showing Vet Techs TTellington TTouches
I had a blast teaching 4 classes on Calming Reactive Animals Naturally with Essential Oils & Tellington TTouch in Vet Clinics. We were able to work with a cat, a number of dogs, horses and people through out the day.
What a fabulous, warm and caring group of people! I thoroughly enjoyed meeting so many dedicated students and Techs.
Sweety, a female cat was a beautiful ‘teaching assistant’ helping everyone learn about using TTouch and essential oils with kitties. I lightly misted the area around her carrier before she came out with a Peace & Calming, Rescue Remedy, Aloe Vera Juice and water spritzer and we all watched her settle just from the aroma. Holding a towel over the entrance way allowed her to come out of the carrier and briefly hide while she adjusted to a dozen people watching her. After I

explained who they were and what we were doing, she peeked out. The towel draped around her as a “Superman Cape” was a helpful tool allowing her to be held easily while keeping her paws on the table but away from my hands. Using TTouches through the towel is also much less threatening than directly on the body. The cape is so helpful for holding fussy, biting, clawing cats. Bring one with you to the Vet’s to help out your cat, Vet and the Techs. Sweety especially liked it when I used a feather to stroke and apply TTouches on her face, head and body. She preferred the feather to the softness of a paintbrush along her face. She began purring when I used Hair Slides.
We continued with 7 dogs from a local shelter. In groups of 2-3 people to a

dog, I began to walk the group through using TTouch and essential oils with the dogs. Initially it was pretty chaotic in the room as each dog was excited and uncertain to meet so many new people doing these weird circles on them. Everyone soon settled as people became more comfortable trying out the circular TTouches, Ear Strokes, Noah’s March long firm strokes, mouth work and essential oils. Dakota, a young male dog helped everyone learn how The Balance Leash can help a dog go from pulling to calm and responsive.
In the afternoon, two elder horses joined us. Starlet, a 20+ yr. Standardbred mare was an eager recipient for the equine demonstration. It was as if she had been waiting all day for her ‘spa’ treatment! She seemed to thoroughly delight in each and everything I demonstrated. She got ‘well oiled’ with the grounding and balancing

application moving from high headed, stiff and uncertain to mega relaxed, head down, back and topline lengthening, standing squarly and then moving with more connection through her entire body. Her stablemate joined us as people began stroking with our 4’ stiff ‘magic TTeam wands.’ People even got to experience what it was like to have their backs and legs stroked. They commented on how calming and grounding it was for them.
Thanks to all wonderful VALVT organizers, the Vet Tech helpers, all those who came to the classes and to Kerry Leavitt for all the fantastic pictures, videos and help through the day!

Enjoy the nourishing effects of therapeutic grade lavender.
Lavender is the most versatile essential oil and is often used to cleanse and soothe burns, cuts, and other skin irritations. In addition, its relaxing scent has balancing properties that help calm the mind and body. I use YL Lavender for all kinds of things. If I am in doubt what to use, I go for my Lavender! Whether it is for my dogs, cat, horses, myself, family or clients, I use it all the time. Cuts, scrapes, wounds, itchies, insect bites, burns or for soothing, calming, relaxing during the day or to help at night before bed, I love my Lavender! My parents travel with their Lavender ALL THE TIME!
Lavender Foaming Hand Soap cleanses and conditions your hands without leaving dryness or irritation. Infused with lavender essential oil, vitamin E, and aloe, this soap is effective yet gentle enough for the most sensitive skin. <note from Sandy> If you have not yet tried this foaming soap, I very highly recommend it! It smells heavenly, I use it in office bathroom and my clients love it too! Great antibacterial with a soft scent. I have been known to use this in a pinch for cleaning toilets, floors and various other household situations when my Thieves Cleaner is at the other end of the house! Works great.
LavaDerm Cooling Mist contains lavender essential oil and aloe to soothe and rejuvenate stressed skin. It provides comforting relief for minor burns, abrasions, dryness, and other skin irritations. Bring relief to stressed skin with a blend of gentle skin-soothing ingredients including lavender essential oil and aloe vera. Spray directly onto the affected area and repeat every 10-15 minutes until desired relief is achieved. This has been used for people as well as horses and dogs quite a bit for all kinds of itching situations and is very effective. I heard a Holistic Vet mention she uses LavaDerm Cooling mist in her practice too!
Lavender Lip Balm soothes dry lips, harnessing the power of lavender essential oil and the moisturizing benefits of jojoba and vitamin E. I use the the Lip Balm all the time and love it of course. It is smooth, silky, smells great, provides a healing balm that can soothe sunburn and chapped lips well. I got my brother hooked on this and he swears by it!

How do I know Dr. Bove?
Many of you have heard me talk about Mary over the years. As a student at the Barbara Brennan School of Healing in the early 1990′s, and living in Vermont, I was the receptionist and then office manager at the Brattleboro Naturopathic Clinic.
I’d listen as clients made appointments for difficult, painful, chronic illnesses and watch them over the weeks steadily improve with Mary’s attentive care. People would come in miserable and after working with Mary for awhile they’d start shining.
Mary would tell me about looking at the whole picture and the importance of education about food, nutrition, diet and lifestyle. She’d share how most of the deeply challenging conditions that walked through the Clinic’s door could have been avoided. She’d often outline steps that could have been taken for prevention as well as how she’d treat many complex conditions.
Often Mary would go hiking over the weekend and come back with a half dozen wild herbs. By the time I came in at 9am on Monday morning, she’d have them all soaking so they could be later made into tinctures to use for clients. I’d ask questions about their properties and uses which she’d rattle off easily. There was also a full herbal pharmacy that rivals any store. Always eager to teach, Mary was gracious with information about all the herbs and herbal combinations. What gifts she always offered!
My two+ years working with her had a profound impact for me personally and professionally with my development in the healing arts.
It is with great honor and excitement that I’m offering this class via telephone conference for everyone! I hope you will join us Tuesday, August 30, 2011, while Dr. Mary Bove, ND shares her wisdom, medical knowledge and deep compassion on ways we can naturally support our bodies and endocrine systems so we can live life more fully.
Typically Mary only lectures at Herbal and Naturpoathic conferences. We are very fortunate for her to offer this class for us!
